Probably not very well, especially in this case.

Respond to the guy that was offering an IF can with a center-tapped 
secondary.  GRAB IT!

Trying to rewind the coil is a fools errand.  Grafting in a coil from an 
other transformer is a lot more manageable, but still a chore.

If it's AFC in an AM receiver, you may never miss it.
