Henry,
I've known, or at least known of Dave Schmarder, for a long time via the
internet crystal set community. He does some really creative things,
and I like his website a lot. However, he seems to be obsessed with
litz wire. I guess he bought a bunch of it.
Anyway, the whole point of a regenerative receiver is that you feed
energy back from the output of the amplifier into the tuned circuit to
cancel out the losses in that circuit, giving you the ability to achieve
infinite Q and the resulting oscillation. So whether you use litz wire
or not is probably a mote point. Forget all that claptrap about
amplifying the signal over and over. What you're doing is introducing a
negative resistance into the tuned circuit to cancel out the unavoidable
resistive losses. (Come down to the Armstrong Days affair at InfoAge on
the 27th or 28th and get the whole scoop.)
If you give me a link to the particular Schmarder radio. I'll second
guess it further.
Regards,
Al
