Ray,
I don't suppose the value of the Ruhf radio will be affected by the 
substitution of vintage "dud" tubes with good amplifier sections. I believe 
the  lowly Heathkit and Eico testers tested both the amp and the eye 
functions.
 I did notice one of those eyes had the desirable GE logo in the center. On 
the other hand, perhaps Ruhf got the inspiration to build the thing because 
he was sitting on a bunch of duds:-)
