[NJARC] Oh no not the eye

Many of you saw the Ruhf 6U5 superhet at the last club meeting that uses
18 eye tubes as amplifiers. Thought came to mind, - - since they are
not used as "eye" tubes and do not glow maybe they would function well
in a conventional eye tube application. By the same token, I have a
small box of eye tubes that are very dim but maybe the amplifier
section of the tube is still OK since I believe that they go dim when
the coating on the anode dissipates or whatever. Maybe I need a special
tube tester setup to just check the amplifier function. Guess the first
step is to check the condition of the 18 tubes in the Ruhf radio. Have
not looked at the tube tester settings for the 6U5/6E5 or what the specs
are for the tube. Maybe there is a use for dim eye tubes and maybe
those 18 tubes in the Ruhf radio can brighten some other radios. Comments?
Ray
