Joe,

  The answer to both your questions is yes. The outboard box converts the digital only transmission into an analog signal your 10 YO Kmart can display. I have put the output of my converter into a 15 YO Sony 27" and it works very well. There appear to be minor improvements in clarity with my unit. The only difference is that you use rabbit ears and I use an outdoor antenna. You may have to move your rabbit ears to higher ground or try another antenna. If you don't watch much TV I suspect the converter will suit you and your 10 YO Kmart. This avoids the expense of a new TV purchase until the prices are more competitive.
