I was figuring this. The changes look to me to have been made a while ago.
The capacitors are rather old style.
I have been over the issue of "manufacturer" of this model and it is
interesting. It seems that Warwick was the "manufacturer" in some sense but
the chassis was definitely made by U.S. Radio (1007). But it seems that U.S.
Radio made the same chassis for Montgomery Ward (model 62-84) and for Wells
Gardner and possible even Airline. And it seems Beverly was a trade name or
maybe even a store name for sale in department stores.
What I am wondering about is was the whole radio assembled by U.S. Radio or
was just the chassis and Warwick did the rest? Interestingly, my unit has an
internal sticker calling it Beverly, model 2088, class "B" superheterodyne.
I have not found any link to that model number but now I see a ink stamp on
the dial that says "5124 for chassis 1007." I wonder what that means.
Ed
Ed, there are two possibilities:
(1) a production change by the manufacturer; or
(2) an in-the-field modification, probably because the customer wanted a
greater
bass response.
Somewhere, I have a booklet put out in the early 1930s by one of the
capacitor
companies. It gave service techs tips on where and when to add capacitors to
improve performance.
By the way, I ran Beverly through Ghirardi's Radio Troubleshooter's
Handbook. It
says that Beverly radios were made by the Warwick Mfg. Co.
