The 12s are probably the most common of the prewar sets. This GE was one
of the rarer ones. Of course the rarer items are always "more desirable"
and since there are fewer of them for collectors to chase, that drives
the price up even more. There are around 60 known examples of the TRK-12
and about 13 of the TRK-9 vs. around 8 of those HM-225s. I guess the
small difference in quantity makes a huge difference in value. The
highest auction price I recall hearing about for a really nice 12 was
around $15,000 a couple of years ago and since they typically seem to go
for more or less half of that, that figure has been viewed as an
aberration by some folks.
