Hi Dave,

The finger is an excellent signal injector.  :-)  There isn't much 
between the grid cap and the antenna terminal. 

First, attempt to adjust the RF trim cap, #5 on the schematic, after 
you've tuned the radio to a station near the high end of the band with 
finger in place.

If no good, use ohm meter to check both winding of the antenna 
transformer and associated connections. 
Consult the schematic:  You should have a low resistance, probably less 
than 1K, from the 1st detector grid cap to ground.  Antenna terminal to 
ground should show 20K with the volume control full CCW, and that value 
should go down when you advance the volume control.

I'm sure you can hack it.
