Lots of interesting material, I'll put in my 2 cents worth, briefly I hope.
1. Newsletter for members only, once a year publish an index and sell
back issues. Samples could be on club site to entice membership.
2. Not concerned about possible abuse by E-bayers at repair sessions,
suppose that it happens but repeat offenders will be caught out. What
we earn in good will and public service more than offsets an occasional
abuser. Could charge nominal fees for non members and set up simple
guide line instructions for them as they come in.
3. Seems to be more than a fair amount of interest in technical/repair
training and if this is what members want we should find a way to
provide it. However, it cannot be a couple of 15 or 20 minute sessions.
Those of us who do repairs know that it cannot be learned, even
cursorily, in a couple of sessions. To be fair to the varied interests
of all club members, it should not be done at regular meetings unless it
is conducted separately in another room for those so interested. We
have talented members who could do this teaching and it would be nice to
have a repair training coordinator but it's a big task. The videos that
we have are good, what's wrong with old fashioned books? If members
want such training they should be willing to put in some book time like
any other educational endeavor.
4. Notwithstanding what Steve has said, the repair shop at InfoAge is
not that close. However, we could start training and repair activity at
InfoAge in other areas almost immediately if there is a consensus to do so.
5. Not a big fan of committees but the subject seems to warrant more
discussion and thought than can be done at club meetings or board
meetings. Maybe we should start with a simple survey, who wants the
activity and who will support it as trainers and coordinators?
6. I will help in any way that I can.
