Southern NV ARES DEC Report by Glenn KB7REO for May,
2003
The coverage area of the Southern NV District is
Clark, Nye, Lincoln, White Pine, and Esmeralda
Counties. Much of the rural counties have seen a
decrease in the number of Hams in most of these areas.
This seemed true for northern Nye County as well. The
repeater in Tonopah has been taken off the air and it
would seem unlikely that it will be replaced. The only
active repeater is the Echolink node at Bruce's house
(K7LAF-L) on 146.415 simplex. I visited with Bruce
during Jim Butler Days over the Memorial Day weekend.
I was able to access the Bishop, CA repeater on 146.94
from Goldfield to Tonopah on US 95.
I have been working to update our SKYWARN Net Control
operator list for this coming Monsoon season. We have
added Cliff W9CRB, Bruce AL7LS, Vern K0EGA, Charlie
AA5QJ and Bill N7UR to the roster. John K6YDW remains
as the Clark County SKYWARN Coordinator, where he'll
help with SKYWARN operational assignments during the
summer. The NWS WCM Andy Bailey has been helpful with
improving the SKYWARN station's PC and configuring the
EMWIN station to monitor local NWS weather bulletins.
This summer's long range outlook is calling for above
normal temperatures and average precipitation. SKYWARN
operations will be conducted from the NWSFO when
requested by NWS staff.

on activities, and the communications trailer will be
viewed and your suggestions solicited.
Lincoln County ARES EC Report by Lee K7NKH
There was no action from the Lincoln Co. Sheriff due
to the lack of money. It does not look like our
proposal for the radio equipment for the various EC's
will be acted on until a state and county funding is
secured. I'll keep you posted.
Southern Nye County ARES EC Report by Dick AC7EL
Work is continuing on our communications trailer. We
installed a screwdriver antenna for HF. DC and AC
wiring is mostly done, and batteries and an AC/DC
charger are installed.
