Remember back in the 1990's when you were using Packet and their different sites?
Winlink Express the free program that runs on windows and other platforms uses the good ol'
AX25 format and has been around for years a lot of ocean going boaters use it to communicate
with friends and family. I have never used it while sailing on the ocean but sounds like fun.
W8GCA-10 (RMS) 445.010 was put on the air by Bill Curtice for testing. I know there are several
faster ways to pass e-mail or traffic than WinLink BUT the powers to be have decided "they" want to
try using it along with voice and Fldigi in an emergency.
there is a way to get on the air with out buying a real TNC if you already have an interface such as
SignaLink USB device and a radio your all ready to go. Just down load winlink express and UZ7HO virtual
TNC and have at it. As to all those other items you mentioned since I no longer do MESH I don't have a clue
Bill would be the one to check with on that
I have added a couple of items I am in getting ready that might help if you need something else to do.

Subject: [MVMA] Winlink: Global Radio Email

I heard, on the Greene Councy ARES net last night, mention of a
W8GCA-10 'Winlink' station on 445.01 MHz.
-----
Winlink is...
...a worldwide radio email service that uses radio pathways where the internet is not present, and
is capable of operating completely without the internet--automatically--using smart-network radio relays.
Winlink provides its users email with attachments, position reporting, weather and information bulletins, and
is well-known for its role in emergency and disaster relief communications.
-----

If Winlink is a viable and worthwhile communications scheme,
should it be using a repeater instead of simplex?

Who in West Central Ohio or the Miami Valley or on the MVMA mail list
has a Winlink email address at W8GCA-10 ?

What do I need to access 'WA8APB-Winlink-Postoffice.local.mesh' ?

 What does WA8APB-Winlink-Postoffice.local.mesh do?

Do I need to have an ax.25 station or may I use WA8APB-Winlink-Postoffice.local.mesh
to reach W8GCA-10?

 Why would I buy a $65 TNC + ($)radio + ($)antenna + ($)feedline to do 1200 baud
when I can buy a $49 node + (<$10)CAT5 cable and do 1 to 130 MBs?

 Just full of questions ain't I. ;-)

Chuck
