Yes. It is so sad to see the same mistakes from packet radio in the 1980s
repeated in other technologies in the 3rd millennium.
Ignorance can be reduced, stupid cannot be reduced.

VHF/UHF repeaters are half-duplex.
The advantage is coverage of minimal stations; HT, Mobile,
*Portable*(EMCOMM?), or
home stations with antennas < 100' AGL. ;-)
