Gang,

This came up on the Moose and Squirrel Net just now.  And, it stretches 
back to the origins of the net.

This works really well with radios that have good tuners like the 
PRC-104.  The design is a simplified version of the wire provided with 
the SCR-694 (BC-1306) and AN/GRC-9 man-pack field radios.

On a couple of occasions I ran the M&S Net successfully with 20 Watts, 
and was Q5 all over the Northeast.

The advantage of a true end-fed half-wave is that you don't need much of 
a ground.  A short counterpoise will take care of it. Also, an 
inverted-V setup, with just one low support in the middle, works well 
for NVIS.

The downside of this design is that you have to change the links to 
change bands, but that usually not a big deal in a portable setup.
