REGARDING THE COMMENT “ THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF VERMONT”, AN OBSERVATION FROM A GUY (ME) WHO LIVED NEAR VERMONT FOR 14 YEARS, AND TREATED PATIENTS FROM THAT STATE. I ASKED MANY OF THEM WHAT HAPPENED TO VERMONT POLITICALLY? THEIR ANSWER WAS THAT THAT WERE TWO VERMONTS, ONE THE OLD TIMERS, FARMERS, MERCHANTS, BLUE COLLAR WORKERS, AND THEN THERE WAS THE COLLEGE TOWNS OF BURLINGTON AND BENNINGTON, WITH THEIR LIBERAL POPULATION, QUITE LARGE, WHICH TILTED THE STATE POLITICALLY. AND JUST AS WHAT HAPPENED IN SARATOGA SPRINGS, NEW YORK, NEAR WHERE I LIVED, IF YOU WENT TO SKIDMORE COLLEGE, AND WERE OF AGE, YOU COULD VOTE IN LOCAL ELECTIONS, EVEN THO YOU WERE NOT A RESIDENT, DIDNT PAY TAXES, AND WOULD BE GONE IN FOUR YEARS. GO FIGURE THAT OUT! ROBERTO
