A full report on the Able Archer operation will be following tomorrow but wanted to take the opportunity to crow about the AS-2851 Log Periodic that I used yesterday up on the mountain and the 100% reliable 51.0 communications channel that we established and used all day between the Able Archer Base in Pottstown and my M151 in Port Clinton a distance of thirty four miles. Discovered that there is an issue with my RT-246 transceiver where it's only developing under a watt or less in high power. Not bad running a terrestrial circuit on that low a power.

Ya I've noticed a lot of State Police and Sheriff's departments still maintain lowland, but last I knew who still makes a 110 watt low band radio? I think Vertex, Kenwood...I think Motorola only is in the 50 watt range.
Really is a good practice especially on simplex base stations between EOCs or something.
