Been there d. t.. I couldn't get rid of the switching noise. It was horrendous. Before starting the project, bring the lamp next to the radio and see if you get qrm. If it is quiet, you might have luck.

 The
thought struck me as I was checking out a neat little Ozark
Trails portable fluorescent camp lantern that my son Dave
gave to me a while back - can this thing be used to make
nominal 105-125 VDC for B plus for things like things like a
GRC-9 receiver battery power B plus source, or for a BC-611
walkie talkie B plus supply, or for a homebrew regen
receiver?  I'm guessing that it has a little
switching power supply in it to make enough AC voltage at
some frequency to light the small CFL that it uses, powered
by 4 D cells.  Would not be hard to rectify and filter
to make DC for a little tube radio, I would think.
Anyone ever try this, and or have a schematic for it?
