Agreed.. and those of us who have radios with
signalling can enable data muting so that we don't
hear them. Other than unit ID and alias assignment
there are several radio/ratio signalling features
supported in Stat Alert.

There is really no useful purpose for such signalling
schems on a system that doesn't support them. On such
a system it becomes no more that an annoying "roger
beep" reminiscant of another radio service. Many
repeaters have a courtesy tone that serves such a
purpose. Sometimes it takes awhile for a guy with a
new toy to get the word.

Years ago I had a radio on a 70cm simplex frequency
that we used primarily for air/air and air/ground
communications. I inadvertently had MDC PTT ID
programme on one of the freqs. I was promptly
chastised for "blowin the wax" out of someones ears
when he heard that "gawdawful noise" in his headset..
