Just like to comment being a old Fart ham ,  dos that Smell worse then a 
New fart one ?
Anyway Having a 440 repeater in My Home QTH  , I do not Like hearing the 
MDC and other type tones going out over the air. if not needed  most 
repeater owners will use a controller to mask the TT For various reasons.

I have a Couple of Friends that do belong to a Motorola Ham club that 
requires the Tones to activate their repeater and that is great ,  spend a 
$ 1000 Dollars for a Motorola HT with the display to show Your Ham friends 
call ,   But Do not put the tones out over a System that don't need them . 
It has got so bad A Lot of the other as You call them Old farts, New ones 
too will ignore the Guys and not talk to them.  as You know We need 
more  not less to get in this Wonderful hobby .
