[Motorola] question about taking the Expo a part

Good evening all.  I was trying to take a part an Expo today, and I got
the screws and washers off and all, but I could not get the radio out of
its case.  I tried pulling it out at the top and bottom, and it didn't
seem to work.  Do I remove the battery contacts as well?  I also had
someone help  me, and he seemed to think that I should pull the radio out
of the case by the top where the buttons are.  Is this the best way of
doing this?  Also, if I need to remove the battery contacts how do I do
that without damaging them?
