What I ran into with my trunk lip mount was not
grounding properly. My mag mount was similar. I
added a ground strap from the base of the antenna to
the frame of the car and my antenna got down to a
better SWR almost immediately. With all the plastic
stuff in cars it is getting tougher to get a ground.
That is what took care of my problem, will it fix
yours not sure but I am offering an idea.....
