which had the same type of center loaded whip antenna as the RS CBs from 
later. Also about 400'."

We found that the 49 MHz RS models worked will in the large buildings in 
LA, and about 1/4 mile outside.  Why blow a kilo-Buck on a Motorola, 
when an RS closeout worked just as well?  I recall being surprised when 
on the top floor in a large building, in the elevator, and being able to 
talk to the ground floor without issue.
