"they quantified the number of rounds obtained by saying you could fire
20 round every minute, of every hour, of every day, all year long and
you would not run out for 40 centuries, yes 4000 years. That's a lot of
ammo."
Crazy numbers!
That reminds me of a Geophysical convention I went to in 1995. A
professor friend managed to get us seats with the CEOs of several big
oil companies. I asked them about oil production, supplies, how there's
always a "shortage" around the corner (as mentioned by my7 Father since
the 1940's, et cetera. The answer was, in a way, shocking, but not
entirely. One fellow, from Chevron, I believe said, "The US oil fields
can currently provide triple the world consumption for a minimum of
10,000 years, with no foreseeable diminishment in availability beyond
that". When I asked for further details, some of the information he
provided was, "Because as the Chinese discovered thirty years ago
(1960's, I heard about that), it's a replenishing resource, only limited
by amount easily obtained per site", and, "It's essentially everywhere
on the planet, much like water", along with, "Oil that was created so
many years ago, we are pulling out of the ground now, however, oil that
was created forty years after that, we will pull from the ground forty
years from now". He also added that like water, it has a habit of
replenishing an area it was removed from, although MUCH more slowly,
following with how many sites that went "dry", again produce massive
amounts years, to decades later.
Always interesting to have things quantified...
