I was went to get a haircut today and I noticed this framed poster in the shop.
( BTW, haircut with masks on. )
The haircutter said someone had given him this large poster. I was tempted right then and
there to offer to buy it; I'm sure I could have gotten it for $20 to $30 tops. But due to its
size, about 3 foot tall, I thought I'd better think it over later. When I got home, I looked up
the topic, and I see you can get prints both of this 1950 movie poster and the more
realistic photo type poster from the 2012 movie. The 1950 image is the better, with
classic adventure styling. I think I'll end up getting a print of about 18 x 10 inch size and
then maybe shop Goodwill for a frame. This story fired my imagination since decades ago
when I read the book, and especially so as it has much radio - related. I could almost have a
Kon-Tiki "lookalike" station below the poster, as I have a National NBS-1 ( NC-183 ) and British
B-2 transmitter. This is the transmitter, of about 15 watts power, that they used when they
finally washed up, wrecked, on the Pacific island shore. They had to dry the transmitter and
receiver out; everything had been soaked with seawater, and came back to life slowly as it
dried. Then they repeatedly sent this Morse message, to try to contact and reassure their
followers: their call letters and "ALL IS WELL."
Finally some U.S. ham, maybe unaware of their expedition, answered their CW call:
"IF ALL IS WELL WHY WORRY?"
