Sean, it looked pretty cute to me also. I think you mean the "railroad" type radio. I guess I had assumed it operated ca. 150 MHz but maybe it could be the 30 - 50 range.
I too thought it would be fun to use. To be compatible with current FM you would have to decrease the FM modulation and maybe use a PLL chip to demodulate NBFM.
I have too many other projects already, tho, to do more than think about it.
