I noted this too, when I tried out my Icom handheld with the new active antenna to try to get some late-night CW practice.
"Is there really NO ONE on?", I thought. Apparently so.
When I was up in WA state recently, a few miles from where my brother lives is a street that used to be about 6 miles through
horse pastures. With all the rain and money fertilizing the area, the horse pastures are gone and 35th Avenue from Maltby to
Bothell is housing developments full of new 2-story homes, identical but for slight differences in color shades, and separated
from each other by about 10 feet, and narrow strips called "yards". These developments all sold out or near so. I thought, what
do all these hundreds of home owners do, that they're all buying houses in the $ 400-700k range and it also occurred to me,
there's no way one could be an HF ham in those developments. Maybe ham radio, at least the HF version, is destined to be a
rural and small-town pastime only, like working on your own car, which I'm certain you also cannot do in those developments.
I would prefer to live somewhere where you can actually go out in your yard and saw or hammer a board and no one will have
a fit.
