Well, IMHO, if it did, it was very rare.

Right. It was done with rigs like the TG-34 McElroy tape machines or later versions. I have
three TG-34s here and one box of the complete 15 reels of tapes for it.
I remember taking code from one of those in a classroom many years ago. I think it was just
before I got my Novice license in 1956.
Fair Radio Sales used to sell the tapes which were made for them by a fellow I ran into some
time ago. This man had the original McElroy tape inker. He doesn't do it anymore though.
Complete sets of the tapes are very hard to find...as is the manual which went with them
which listed all the text on the tapes. I managed to find such a manual some time ago.
My idea was to transmit code practice to some locals using a QRP transmitter, a low end-fed
wire antenna, and one of my restored TG-34s. As I expected, there isn't much need for such
here.
I may do it just to say I did, but otherwise I'll put it on the air when I have nothing much better
to do, or if I get bored.
