[Milsurplus] AN/ARC-2 question

The ARC-2 transceiver:
Is the internal shielding really enough that the PTO is really not heard in the IF in AM mode?
( You have to know the ARC-2 block diagram to understand this question. The HFO ( PTO ) is ALWAYS on the receive frequency.
Why are there so many RF amplifier stages?
