The URM-34 is a 1900-4600 MHz signal generator. I fetched this out of my storage. I must have bought it sometime
forgotten time in the past and i must have gotten a really low price on it, or i sure wouldn't have bought it. It is a
very good looking instrument; beautiful, really. But what do i do with it? At first i thought it might have some kind
of application to WiFI freqeuencies? I don't have the manual, but there's a schematic printed on a cover inside.
While puzzling over possible applications or experiments, i happened to notice......380 - 1000 Hz AC power....and
thought, "That's its death sentence." I looked again at the schematic. There's a couple complicated vacuum tube
HV regulators and a multiple winding transformer. I suppose one COULD kludge some 60 Hz transformer replacments
inside, and the voltages maybe don't need stiff regulation, and the pulse generator circuit could be abandoned.
But...why? The case looks like a pretty decent tool box; the knobs, especially the tuning spinner knob, are very nice.
Plus i get some tubes to use or peddle. The klystron is a 5836, IIRC. There is also an RF output attenuator 5-100
in steps marked dbm.
What do you think? No one's going to buy this and pay the shipping for this heavy item, and i'm not going to ship for
free. So harvest the organs with a clear conscience? Do what with the klystron and attenuator?
tnx-
Hue Miller
