Joe congrats! on your finds!

The RBM is the first Mil Radio I had as a kid.
no band spread so touchy tuning used to use a pencil eraser against the
knob which made it like a gear reduction thus allowing small amount or
knob movement.

I have been trying to get the lower freq units to go with it.. need to
find a local one!

I too need to restore my HF one.. I am sure it will need something it
has been in garage for 20 years
then I will play with it but it will eventually end up in SMECC museum.

I was sure proud to have it back in my youth!

Last time I had it fired up... if you wiggled the cord between the PS and
the RBM you would get some sparking near connector so it got shelved.

I have sen these radios in a portable case 2 of them for field use..
maybe on a beach? I will need to hunt up some photos of them in use to go in
with the receiver when it transfers to the museum

above link is from My friend Nick's Navy radio site there are manuals and
photos there!

good luck with it! stay in touch and if you hear of any LF MF ones
near AZ let me know!

This weekend, I picked up a set of RBM receivers and power supply, and I
have a few questions. I'm currently working on the MF receiver. It still has
all its original Navy tubes and looks like it was never worked on.

Here are my questions:

1. Are the .01 postage-stamp Aerovox caps in this receiver mica or paper?
The manual says that they're mica but I have never seen mica caps before in
this large a value.

2. What gives with the bathtub caps? In my set, several are leaking what
appears to be brown wax. I've worked on quite a few military sets but I've
never before encountered military bathtub caps leaking wax like this.
Needless to say, I'm in the process of replacing them all.

3. In what applications were the RBM receivers used during the war?

As always, thank you for your help and guidance. The HF receiver, which
will be next on the bench, supposedly has a dead short, so I'll soon be
tracking that down. Given my experience with the MF receiver, the bathtub caps
will be my primary suspect.
