Some time back, like maybe 2-3 years, i posted to this group some info about TBW use in China. I don't recall the book i quoted,
and i don't want to look it up, but the gist is, the small group Navy coastwatchers in China used TBX radios which fed a central
station or stations using TBW, which relayed to Australia and Hawaii.
I also posted about a movie, "Destination Gobi", which is not top-drawer Art, so maybe not worth watching ( if you can find the
DVD ), but it was based on a Navy weather station in the Gobi Desert. The station designator and some other details were, i believe,
enough to make a pretty sure bet that some writer had experience or info about Navy weather stations in China. I think the call
was "Argo 6" and it implied ( or stated ? ) there were others in the Argo series. I *believe* in the movie, inside a large tent, you
can see from behind the outlines of RBM and TBW equipment. The framework of the movie is that they are strafed by a Japanese
plane and the transmitter is disabled with no spares, so their job is over, and they have to make their way back to central China.
I'd say it was likely, after the invasion of Philippines, that the TBW was used there, but i haven't myself encountered any
references to it.
I think it's a real interesting set but i would have to seriously delete other things to be able to justify one.
I recall one of the Seattle people had the two receivers in their overall cabinet, this was *many* years ago, and he took the
2-receiver cabinet to a surplus store and kept the receivers. I thought that was really, really dumb.
I am surprised leaky tub capacitors were found in the sets. I never saw any problems in the ones i owned, in fact they'd never
needed work, altho not operated for 35 years.
