[Milsurplus] Cleaning canvas bags and their metal pieces ?

re cleaning of canvas radio bags ( TBY, SCR-194 ) and cleaning of green-tarnished metal parts of such bags, I would appreciate any tips you learned from experience.
The metal parts ( what do you call these? ) are more of a challenge because they’re sewn to the canvas straps, and I’d want to avoid discoloring or damaging the
canvas.
