I looked a German FuHEC receiver recently and was surprised to note that the
tuning worked very silky smooth, no kinks whatever, and this probably not
lubed since
1943 or earlier. A fine machine with watch-precision gears, but way too
expensive construction for war expendable material. I was a little
surprised this example wasn't more
bashed, since the case had the "from" APO address and "to" USA addresses
painted right on the case. I would have expected the GI mailroom people, the
ship loaders and unloaders, and the USA postal system to have been much
rougher. Maybe my low estimation of the GI-staffed shipping portion of the
trip is
colored by the many instances of theft by those people. Anything that looked
like a weapon or sword was iffy, whether it would arrive or not.

BTW, I have one copy of "Western Flying" magazine, with not much remarkable
content, but 2 ads for A.R.C. vhf radios. One copy available mailed
cost-free.
No answer on this, means already claimed.
thanks-
Hue Miller
