Vishay was started by Dr. Felix Zandman 50 years ago as a manufacturer 
of foil resistors and strain gages and has now grown so large that these 
initial products were considered "non-core" businesses and spun-off as 
Vishay Precision Group in 2010.    My first job was working for a fellow 
named George Risk, who'd started Dale Electronics in Columbus Nebraska 
in 1951 making precision wirewound resistors, and (disastrously) merged 
it with the Lionel (train) Company in the late 50s.   Dale survived as 
one of the few viable Lionel businesses until becoming Vishay's first 
acquisition in 1985.  Since then Vishay has acquired Sprague, Vitramon, 
Siliconix and numerous companies and product lines.    These brands are 
more recognizable to most of us than Vishay Intertechnology, but it's a 
company that is committed to passives and increasingly, discrete 
semiconductors -  including many devices for mil/aerospace applications.
