Here's one I did.

The first few pix are of a DB25, not an MS. But then there is the MS cable I made. Had about 19 wires connected. I do use heat shrink as you will see. I push the tube up as far as I can, often using some tape to hold it away from the connection. I also often use a hemostat on the wire between the solder joint and the heat shrink tube to help sink some of the heat. I've never had a problem with this technique.

It helps to lay out all the parts on the table in the order they are to be assembled, and check against the print.
And second the use of non-shrink tubing. Either varnished Cambric or Teflon work well. Vinyl can be used, but it's trickier.
