Nice link!

The objections to using heat shrink are:

Not authentic...   heat shrink not available in WWII

If the quarters are close, the tubing shrinks before you want it to, and
then becomes near impossible to slip up over the contact area.

I agree that it provides valyable strain relief, especially for #24 or
smaller wires.
