You sure it wasn't a yellow S in a circle, Ralph? Those were the stabilized
versions of the ARC-5 receivers, I have a few here. My oversimplified
understanding is that the sets were stabilized and lock tuned so that
fiddling fingers wouldn't get them off frequency during a mission as had
been the case previously when they drifted a bit.
The only time I've seen the yellow M is on the equipment that came out of
the Aircraft Radio Corporation archives or 'morgue'.
I'm sure Mike Hanz or Gordon White can ad far more detail.
