[Milsurplus] Command receivers

After the war, I bought two Command receivers covering MF which were 
essentially new and were said to have been specially stabilized for 
monitoring purposes. Each bore a small circle with the letter "M" inside 
all in yellow paint on the front panel. Any idea what the application 
was for these ? Control towers ?  They only cost $7.50 apiece and came 
from the U.K.
