One of the easy ways to tell an "A" from a non "A", if there is no label, is
that the plain BC-14 has binding posts for the detector and on the BC-14A it
is built onto the panel. I would have to look, as I have some of each, but I
believe the buzzer was also located in the lid of the plain BC-14, whereas
on the A it is again on the panel. 73 - Mike

I restored a BC-14 (probably A) for a friend a while back. I was pretty
underwhelmed by it's performance. One of the big problems is that the
detector is connected across the entire secondary. This kills the Q and
leave the radio broad and insensitive.

There's an untuned winding feeding the detector. I'll bet it worked like a
