OGH,
Per my R-388 manual is just a simple 6AQ5 audio output with 600 ohm
secondary and a 4 ohm tap.
The schematic is wrong in the manual from the text, as it states "The
SPEAKER and PHONE jacks are connected across the 600-ohm winding of the
transformer." While schematic shows the Speaker jack connected to the 600
ohm tap and phone jack is connected to the 4-ohm tap. Probably is 600 ohm
for headset, and schematic is a misprint. (TM 11-854) 600 ohm point also
feeds the rectifier, thru a 2200 ohm resistor, for the audio output meter
function.
Per the ST-6 specs I have, it is a 600-ohm unbalanced input, so, you can run
both at same time I would imagine. You might want to 'pad down' the 600
level as could be a little hot when running at a speaker level if using a 4
ohm speaker with it.

Is there any reason you can't hook up to the 600 ohm output and 3.2 ohm
output at the same time. I want a speaker on the 3.2 ohm output and to runa
cable from the 600 ohm output at the same time to an ST-6 for RTTY
reception. I did notice that there was a reduction in audio from the 3.2
ohm connection when i hooked the ST-6 to the 600 ohm terminals. Is that
right or should i not use them both at the same time/
