That would help for using the T-47A book with a T-47 (or ATC) VFO dial.
That was, I believe, the main part of the "M2" modification for the T-47
to give it a T-47A VFO dial. (But there were probably other parts of the
full M2 mod. If anyone knows the details of mod M2, please let us know.)
That's not the only thing that was different between the T-47 and the
T-47A. The other major mod was the dynamotor control power interlock
that opened when the transmitter top lid was lifted.
The problem with changing the VFO dial B backplate on a T-47 with the
plate from a T-47A is that it then makes it appears to be a T-47A (or
a T-47 with M2 mod), when it really is not. That's probably important
to just a few hard-core original military configuration fanatics (like
me).

That's a good compromise, because the decal could be detected as such
and easily removed by a later owner if desired. But, the decal would
need to be very finely and precisely printed, on a thick enough
backing that distortion of the scale did not occur during application.
I'm not optomistic that this use is practical. But, as you said...
what would it hurt?
