Hi Chuck,

I served aboard WWII era ships in the mid 60s. I was in the "A gang"
aboard both. And.. large diesel generator sets were part of the
equipment I took care of and I worked closely with the electricians. We
made both three phase AC and DC for shipboard equipment. The
electricians told me the DC mostly went to the CIC which included the
radios and radar. That seems to be right in line with what everybody
else has said.
