It would work fine except for the 1/16" size of the wire needed, Dave.
No problem with the tips grabbing the radial holes in the locking nut,
but then the "handles" will have one 1/16" diameter wire in tension and
one in compression as you try to loosen or tighten the nut. The one in
tension would be fine, but even piano wire won't take as much
compression as you typically would generate loosening or tightening
those nuts without crinkling up on you. A larger wire size would
probably work, but then you have that pesky .063" tip to worry about
attaching to the end of the wire handle, and the only way I can think of
would be to silver solder the small tips onto the wire...or drill the
wire to fit the small tips into it, which gets us back to the pliers.
It's easier just to drill and pin a pair of needle nose or duckbill
pliers - at least from my limited experience.
Some days there's no easy way to get there from here... :-)
