You know, I can no longer recall the trade name, but one of the few good copying processes back in the 1950s produced negative prints. Some microfilm (or microfiche, maybe) machines did also. Been there, done that. You youngsters missed the good old days.

Come to think of it, I believe the first certified copy of my birth certificate came as a negative.

Better quality printer/scanner/copiers will do negative output. I'd never
had occasion to use it but I just did a test print of a sheet of TCS
transmitter calibration cards and it worked fine. I then took that negative and
copied it back to positive. The machine here is a Xerox WC5638. If you can't
find anyone around there with a good machine, send it down here and I'll
reverse it.
I am curious, however, as to why someone would have made a negative.
