[Milsurplus] 4CX-600 tube tester expert

There was an article in Electric Radio a few years back detailing how to
make a fixture that would properly test power tubes using higher filament
currents, plate voltages and realistic load currents. The Hickok type tester
circuit cannot evaluate (directly heated) power triodes for other than
"emission" because of the line frequency related signal voltage applied to
the grid. I don't remember if the circuit described would work with
tetrodes, but it would be something to check out.

A TV-7 and the like isn't up to the task. An 807 consistently overloaded my
AN/USM-118B, one of the toughest testers made.

I think your amplifier is a much better test than you'll ever get with a
TV-7 on a tube that size. Is it practical to add overload protection
circuitry to the amp and maybe a variac to the power supply so that voltages
could be brought up slowly until you had a little better confidence level of
the tube under test?

Is there any way to come up with switch settings to test this animals on a
TV-7?? or another model tester?? the 600 has the same base as the 4X-150 and
4CX-250. I have no problem making adapters or what ever. I have been testing
them in an amplifier which is pretty bad idea as it cooks things when you
have a bad tube!!
