Hutch,
Sounds like you have -2- bad (shorted)cells, 2.4V missing.  All the Ni-Cad
mfgs I deal with recommend that you -store- battery packs after they have
been fully charged.  Use them a while, go through the cycles, then
"top"them off for at least 12-16 hours before storing away.  That allows
them to equalize in charging state then discharge naturally, which they
all do at an even rate.  If they are not connected cells, i.e. welded
together, be sure to clean the contacts in the battery box and on the
cells before storage too, or take them out and store seperately.  I do NOT
recommend using spray cleaner, DeOxit etc, if you do clean them totally
dry, using a non reside cleaner, alcohol etc.
