[Milsurplus] shipboard announcing equipment

I have a chest microphone(without eh canvas straps) marked, "Shipboard 
Announcing Equipment", Magnetic Microphone type IC/MPM -5C, Bu Ships 
stock No. S17-M48144-5721, 200-8000.p.s. 150 ohms at 1000c.p.s., Navy 
Department  Bureau of Ships  Contract No. bs 5251

Is this the equipment used by the naval gunnery officer to direct fire? 
If anyone is looking for one for a restoration, let me know off line.
