So, this would have been in the category of an experiment,
right? I mean, unless this was also a secret, there don't seem
to have been US submarines generally with TTY equipment
onboard.
As the Axis AFAIK didn't crack the US codes, this would have
maybe added another couple layers of complexity to their efforts -
but as it was they weren't decoding USN messages to submarines,
even tho they certainly detected them. -Hue
