This would most probably have been the Vultee BT-13 Valiant (aka:
Vibrator) trainer.  Over 11,000 were built with the first ones being
12 volt aircraft and the later ones 24 volt using the SCR-A*-283
instead.  (The C-47 shared this change in system voltage as did a few
other aircraft.)  After the war, they were sold off for a few hundred
bucks apiece and a lot were sold to people who just wanted the engines
to upgrade their Stearmans for cropdusting.  They scrapped the rest of
the airframe and its contents.  (Thank you Wikipedia for the
