Au contraire. The ME-9 on the DC volt ranges is selectable for either 1000
ohms per volt or 20000 ohms per volt. Except that the 0-5KV range is 20K only.
On the AC ranges it is 1000 ohms per volt. It is therefore equivalent to
almost any of the multimeters originally used to work on any of the equipment
anyone on this list would be interested in. The ME-9 has only two real
drawbacks. It's a little on the large size compared to the 260 and it uses pin jacks
instead of banana jacks.
The reason for the 1000 ohm per volt ranges is so that it could be used with
equipment manual voltage charts that had been written for older multi-meters.
