[Milsurplus] Bayshore Surplus: SF Peninsula

With all these great stories about the Surplus stores in Canada and the
Pacific Northwest I started to think about the one military surplus
store that was in Redwood City , located about 25 miles south of San
Francisco. It was located on the Bayshore frontage road east of Highway
101 in what was a bit of a seedy area with wrecking yards and a sad
looking trailer park. There where two large buildings as I recall . one
with shelves of all sorts of parts either nos or cut out of some gear .
The other large warehouse in back was stuffed with a lot of stuff in
crates and gear just piled up in stacks. This would have been in 1968
-69 when I was 13 and 14 years old and would peddle my bike down there
to look around and buy some switches and small parts. Looking back now I
think the back warehouse had TBK's ,TBL's or similar lined as well as
ship sonar gear . There where sheds outside too that had piles of stuff
that the weather had pretty much reduced to real scrap.I think they shut
down in 1970 as I recall going by there and the gate locked up and
dumpsters filled to overflowing.

Anyone from this area remember this place and what was all in there. At
13 and 14 I did not really appreciate at what was there and did not pay
too close attention to the BIG stuff.

Thanks Hue and all for the great stories.

Paul
